In 1907, The Swedish American Hall building on Market and Sanchez Streets held meetings for Swedish American generations. August Nordin creates this outstanding building along with 300 plus more buildings. The Castro Theatre is the most well known landmark in The Castro district. Created by local architect Timothy Pfleuger and built in 1922, it still remains standing and operating with its original artwork. In 1972, the first sign of gay activity and pride establish at The Twin Peaks Tavern gay bar.
