Milk's dream to reality
This has always been Harvey Milk’s Dream- a gay neighborhood influencing politics and economics. It all appears to be perfect today in The Castro yet commercialism draws attention away from The Castro’s first landmark; the Victorian houses. Cafes, clothing stores, bars, fitness clubs, and shops with its trendy items outshine the Victorian houses. When gays and lesbians struggle to cope with such hard times, comedy becomes a remedy allowing them to escape reality. Comedy helps homosexuals voice out their views and opinions. For all the voices who speak up, it all meets together in the end; same-sex couples, heroes to the gay rights movement, a connection between the young and old generation, having their own children, and acceptance of being homosexual from the straight population. Mainstream society may not accept homosexuals completely yet major victories have been won. Humankind continues on fighting to make a difference in one’s journey.
